A trend that undoubtably has ruled the shop floors and my instagram feed this season is Animal print, from leopard to snake to zebra - if you don't have something animal print in your wardrobe right now then you really need to consider investing!

Leopard print is, as the saying goes, an ‘oldie, but a goodie’, the bold pattern has been circulating fashion trends for decades and can be traced back as far as ancient Egypt! However, It wasn’t until 1947 that leopard as a print – rather than a fur – became fashionable. Christian Dior’s spring/summer 1947 collection featured a leopard print silk-chiffon evening gown and day dress, and since then we have seen leopard print on every garment imaginable!

Soaring sales of animal print clothing helped Asos post a £500m rise in sales last year, the firm revealed last week. The online fashion retailer sold 1.3 million animal print garments across both menswear and womenswear, offering 2,000 options during the period.

The pattern that is designed to help these dangerous animals blend in into their natural environment's, was one that a woman used to stand out; So, a woman wearing this trend is “not necessarily saying that she is a predator, but she sure isn’t prey.” In a time where female sexuality, power and vulnerability have never been more talked about, this has never made more sense.

I do, however think this trend has over took shop floors so quickly, that its going to go out of fashion just as quick. With buyers feeling like they're over the trend they will be seeking something fresh and original to make them and their clients stand out in a crowd! This makes me excited to see what kind of trends we're going to see next season!!
